refresh the "Computer" icon in the upper left corner always gets this dotted
outline no matter which icon was previously selected. This would seem to be
normal behavior and nothing to worry about. Just clicking on an empty space on
the desktop makes the dotted box disappear.

Yes, it looks red to me, too, on my desktop. So, what you see is probably
just one of those *wow* things. ;)

If that is the only icon on the desktop, then "It automatically" has focus any time
the desktop is displaying.
All that box is telling you is that the recycle bin has focus.
Place another icon on the desktop ( shortcut or something ) and click it once.
the focus will change to it.

to date, antivirus and antispyware are clean. About a week ago, I started noticing that whenever I went into Computer, opened C: \ Program Files and scrolled to the bottom of the would get an instant "Windows Explorer Has Stopped Working" message and crash out to my desktop. Through trial and error, I determined that the dynamic icon for C: \ Program Files \ Windows WM folder icon so that it no longer crashes Windows Explorer on sight, but now whenever I try to open C: \ Program Files \ Windows Mail (just the folder, not the program t crash, or I guess even if it does, go to Start Menu \ Programs \ Accessories \ System Tools and open Disk Cleanup. Put a checkmark next to Thumbnails. Click on OK This will rebuild your Thumbnails database. Then un-check "Always show icons, never thumbnails" (Apply, OK). When I checked "always show icons, never thumbnails" I was able to explore the Windows Mail folder without crashing. I deleted using disc cleanup, as you said, but when I went back and unchecked "always show icons, " I was back to square one. Now Windows Explorer crashes again when I scroll down to stop crashing when I scroll down to the Windows Mail folder icon with dynamic icons / thumbnails enabled. I can't change the Windows Mail folder icon to anything else that
Icons on Desktop change after installing latest Acrobat update Windows 7 I installed the latest update to Adobe Acrobat 8.1.3 this afternoon and I noticed that many of the desktop icons now have a blue curved arrow in the bottom left hand corner of the icon are still normal. When I go to the properties menu and try to hange the icons back to the way they were before the update they won't change back. Harold Windows (1) those are called shortcuts. . this is normal do you want to remove the shortcut arrow overlay? On Mon, 24 Nov 2008 14:24:32 -0500, Harold A. Climer The blue curved icon indicates that the icon represents a shortcut to the file, rather than the file itself. Not only is that normal, I, and most people, believe that you should not have anything on the desktop except for shortcuts. I don't know why installing an update to Acrobat should have
I both use, and still like MsDos. But I dont want chkdsk running underneath my desktop where I cant see what it is doing. Why did MS abandon Scandisk? Chkdsk was not "dropped", it never worked for, and was not made for, any WinNT-based operating system. CHKDSK on NT systems is not the same as the old DOS versions, but it clicked on START, then RUN, and typed in chkdsk.exe. After that I made a shortcut on the desktop to that file. Running it like that, only brought a very brief flash and it computer for WIFI. Then I transfer anything I downloaded to my Win98 / Win2000 (dual boot) desktop and do all my other computer stuff using Win98. I am not saying this to Windows 98 a lot (I like Windows 3.1 and 95 too), but that dang System Resource thing is far too limiting for me. As I could only have about three of the things I once read. SC Tom typed: Huh? ME do not have the System Resource problem? I ran ME for about a year and I did not remember that nice thing for me is even up to Windows 7, I can dump the stock desktop (aka shell) and use something else. This releases me of many OS limitations. For example
know what that mysterious folder called "Nethood" is all about. It is a series of shortcut links that are mirrored in your Network Neighborhood !! They will either show up as lnk NT Documents and Settings \ username \ nethood in WinXP and 2000 Network Neighborhood is comprised of icons that are actually shortcuts to the remote computer or disk drive. These must also appear shared drive on his PC is the D drive, the properties of the Nethood folder shortcut will be: \ john \ d How it Works The Network Neighborhood does not automatically scan and the plate to become the Master Browser. YOU MAY NOT WANT TO WAIT - also, the shortcut in Nethood becomes corrupted, you may not see it in Network Neighborhood, or may see a shortcut that does not work when clicked. So you can force an update manually as follows scanning. For example - if you need to recreate Dad's D drive because the existing shortcut is not working 1) delete the bad shortcut in Nethood 2) Start / Run . . . \ Dad (an Explorer window will pop up with all folders the remote D folder and drag it to the Nethood folder, release and select "Create Shortcut". The folder will now also appear in Network Neighborhood" I was going to suggest Shift
d like to use a specific icon for the site. Certain websites have produced proprietary icons, many of which are available through Favorg. I'm wondering if there's a way www.thegreendirectory.com.au / favicon.ico Fortunately animated favicons do not animate on the Windows desktop when saved with an internet shortcut. Regards. If the site contains its own embedded favicon, then a simple right click of a "favicons" folder somewhere, such as in My Documents for *storing* the collection of embedded icons & check your temporary internet files(view files) & *copy* them, 1 at a time, though, into be sure to rename the favicon portion of the name, leaving the .ico extension. Then, whenever a site uses the generic "E" icon, you can right click / properties / change icon & "browse" to your favicons folder to pick a more suitable icon for that shortcut. I know that this is a crude way of achieving what you're wanting, but to "hijack" & you may have fun in the process. There's a freeware program called "Icons Extract" that searches your system files for icons to add to your "collection". http: / / www.nirsoft.net / utils / iconsext.html
